WAYNE: A time for handbags

December 15 2004

WAYNE ANDREWS revealed the true extent of the Selhurst Park fracas on Saturday and said it all started when David Thompson "tried to kick lumps out of me like I'm some sort of tree and trying to chop me down!", by Stuart Pink.

The 27-year-old former Colchester and Oldham striker ran back 40 yards to dispossess Thompson after originally losing the ball in the Blackburn penalty area.

But after being tackled by ANDREWS, Thompson kicked out and the fireworks started.

ANDREWS said: "I can remember I just turned my back and I heard Fitz shouting hey, hey, hey' because obviously we're really close mates and it's an instant feeling, and it just turned into handbags."

ANDREWS was then caught up in the middle of it and he admits he felt a little bit intimidated by the sheer size of the players getting involved.

ANDREWS joked: "Bearing in mind I'm not tall and everybody's about 6ft 3in and I'm just like leave it now, leave it, but it was all handbags really."
